Sean Penn Files $10M Defamation Lawsuit Against ‘Empire’ Creator Lee Daniels

Sean Penn has just filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit against Lee Daniels after the Empire creator made a series of remarks about Terrence Howard that indirectly linked Penn to domestic violence.

According to Us Weekly, it all started last week when Daniels defended Howard and his recent legal woes in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, telling the mag, “[Terrence] ain’t done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he’s some f—kin’ demon. That’s a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America.”

Those comments, however, did not go over well with Penn and his legal team.

“As asserted in the lawsuit, there is also a critical issue at stake here,” Penn’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, told Us Weekly. “Which is the malicious and reckless repetition of rumors and innuendo at the expense of others. Sean has been subjected to false, baseless, and reckless attacks for years, and this is only the most recent example.”
